Currently we are searching qualified candidate to fill position of:

FORESTRY & CLIMATE CHANGE (FCC) SPECIALIST


The Forestry and Climate Change (FCC) Specialist will design and test a framework for delivering performance-based incentives to selective logging concessions in Indonesia that implement practices that reduce carbon emissions. The Nature Conservancy has been developing this “Reduced Impact Logging-Carbon (RIL-C)” performance standard over the past 3 years. The Conservancy has done extensive field measurements and analysis to identify specific practices that yield predictable and substantial emission reductions and can be easily monitored, and has previewed the draft concept of the performance standard with an extensive network of policy makers and companies.  S/he will further review the concept with policy-makers and practitioners, test the practices in the field with partner concessions in East Kalimantan, and develop the toolkit to allow for systematic application of the toolkit using financing mechanisms related to REDD+ and green development. S/he will work with the global Forest Carbon Science team to develop a VCS RIL methodology linked to the performance standard. Once the design is complete, s/he also is responsible to mainstream the RIL-C concept within the forestry concession association (APHI) and Ministry of Forest by influencing policy and regulations. Internally, s/he coordinates closely with Improved Forest Management (IFM) Manager as well as with terrestrial senior management team, establishes and maintains partnerships at all levels.  This may include the following functions:

·        Develops RIL-C guideline for timber concession based on RIL-C principles in collaboration with consultant(s)
·        Facilitates behavior and practice change within partner concession to implement RIL-C in collaboration with IFM Manager.
·        Maintains relationships with key personnel at all levels within partner organizations.
·        Secures on-going commitment and regulatory support from key actors (esp. APHI, Ministry of Forestry) to enable RIL-C program success and mainstreaming.
·        Reports progress against RIL-C work plan to RAFT2 project lead
·        Develops ToRs and oversee contracting of consultants for RIL-C and production forestry-climate change work streams
·        Explores opportunities for securing financing of incentives and technical assistance to support replication of RIL-C practices across Indonesia



The FCC Specialist will be based in Berau, East Kalimantan. She/he will report to ITP (Indonesia Terrestrial Program) Senior Manager Berau.


Requirements:
·        Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in forestry, natural resources management, conservation, business, law or another related field of study and 7-10 years’ experience in forest concession management, natural resources management, and community empowerment or other related experience.  Equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
·        Knowledge of carbon project standards.
·        Experience and knowledge of current trends and strategies in natural forest management, forest certification and wood trade in Indonesia.
·        Broad network of contacts in the forestry sector in Indonesia, especially with the private sector.
·        Successful experience in developing, directing and managing multiple projects and timelines.
·        Supervisory experience, including ability to motivate, lead, set objectives and manage performance.
·        Strong administrative skills in addition to computer literacy in MS office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.  Requirements to: effectively communicate; produce reports; manipulate, analyze and interpret data; make presentations.
